Grange Corner -- Raymond D. Kesner, 48, died unexpectedly at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home as he was doing evening chores. Mr. Kesner, a farmer for 20 years, was a former Parke county Soil Conservation Service employee. he was a member of the Friends Union Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent and trustee of the church. He was a veteran of World War II. A native of Parke county, he was born May 19 1918, a son of Arthur and Ruby Simmons Kesner. He was married to Vera Bowman June 1 1947. Surviving are the widow; his step mother Mrs. Mabel Kesner of Cayuga; two daughters, Arlene and Elaine, at home and two step sisters, Mrs. Pearl Leota Van Sant and Mrs. Lucille West, both of Cayuga. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a half brother. funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Wolf Creek Church with Rev. John Servies officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the Davies-Tudor Funeral Home in marshall after noon Thursday. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before services.

She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed in the Fountain County Section of Local History at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

OBITUARY OF RAYMOND DONALD KESNER In Parke Co., Indiana, May 19, 1918, a son, Raymond Donald was born to Arthur and Ruby Simmons Kesner. At the early age of 2 years, his mother passed away and he was reared in the home of his grandparents. Educated in the schools of Vermillion Co., he was a graduate of Cayuga high school. He was inducted into the army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, February 20, 1942 serving in World War II as a Technical Sergeant and Aerial Engineer in France and Sicily. He received the good conduct ribbon, Oak leaf cluster and the distinguished service citation and was honorably discharged in 1945. June 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to Vera Bowman, they established their home in Sugar Creek Township, Parke County. Two daughters, Arlene and Elaine were given to this union. The remainder of his life was spent in farming. At the time of his death, he was an employee of the Parke Co. Soil Conservation Service. He was a member of Friends Union church serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee of the Church and Sunday School teacher for 13 years. He was also deeply interested and active in the affairs of Wolf Creek Community Church. Raymond was an asset to any community, always cheerful and ready to lend a helping hand, industrious, a good neighbor and sincere friend. On Tuesday evening, May 9th, 1967, while going about his daily work, the Master called and a devoted husband and father quietly passed away, to await the resurrection day, at the age of 48 years 11 months, 20 days. They cannot be called long years in terms of time but they were full years in measurement of friendship, love and service. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a half brother. Left to mourn are, his wife, two daughters, his step mother, Mrs. Mable Kesner of Cayuga, two half sisters, Mrs. Leota VanSant and Mrs. Lucille West, both of Cayuga, nieces, nephews, neighbors and many friends.   -– jlr
